I need urgent help

Spotify has made some changes

What changes?

Spotify used to be a non-identity-based platform, but it recently introduced messaging, which means account information is connected to song links.

What does this mean?

It shows the name and profile picture of whoever shared a link, even if they didn't intend to give out their account information.

How do I keep safe?

You can still use Spotify safely. Please see the steps below.

How to turn off DMs on Spotify

You can turn off the DMs on Spotify so that others cannot message you.

  1. Open the Spotify App: Launch the Spotify app on your mobile device.
  2. Go to Profile: Tap on your profile picture, usually located in the top-left corner of the app.
  3. Access Settings: Select My Settings from the menu that appears.
  4. Find Personal Settings: Within Settings, find and tap on the Personal section.
  5. Select Private Messenger: Look for and select Private Messenger.
  6. Opt Out: Choose the option to Decline or turn off the feature, then Confirm your selection
How to remove tracking from links

Others might be able to find your Spotify account through your shared songs.

To hide tracking on links, remove everything after the question mark.

For example

This:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/74BUi79BzFKW7IVJBShrFD?si=28575ba800324

Becomes this:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/74BUi79BzFKW7IVJBShrFD

I love sharing Spotify songs online

Music is a great way to connect. But be mindful about where you're sharing links. For example, if you're using communities that are open to the public, like Discord or X, consider whether you'd like to still share the link here. If so, make sure you've turned off your DMs.
