I need urgent helpThe Department of Work and Pensions are getting in touch with people to let them know they need to move to Universal Credit. This may cause worry or concern for some people.
Our Helplines team have shared some key information that might be helpful:
- What benefits will be affected?
The changes are affecting the following benefits: Tax credits such as Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), and Housing Benefit unless you’re in supported or temporary accommodation. Other benefits, such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), will stay the same.
- Will I get paid less money now?
You should get transitional protection to keep the same level of benefits you are receiving now, but this could change if your circumstances change.
- I'm worried about delay in receiving payments
It's important to migrate within the given timeframe to minimise any delay in getting your payments. If you choose to migrate to Universal Credit after the deadline, your existing benefits will end. You will need to apply in the standard way for Universal Credit.
We know it can be complicated to navigate these processes. You're not alone.
You can call the Universal Credit Migration Helpline to get official information and support on 0800 169 0328. They are available Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.
