I need urgent helpWe're creating the Side by Side UnCommonplace Book!
A digital book filled with original contributions from community members.
What is a commonplace book?
A commonplace book is usually a space to collect and compile information. These books can contain anything from personal prose and poetry to recipes, sketches, and personal observations.
Why Un-Commonplace?
To represent our diverse community, we're creating the Un-commonplace book. A space to showcase members’ unique experiences.
How will it work on Side by Side?
Our Un-Commonplace book will be created by original contributions from our community. It will be a digital, text- and image-based book made entirely by members!
Where did the idea come from?
One of our lovely community members, Cherri, suggested the idea and the chapters! Thank you Cherri!
The Book will be divided into chapters
💖 Hope Through Community - Finding friendship, belonging and knowing you're not alone
🪷 Find Peace - Acceptance, stillness, self-compassion and contentment
☕ The Little Things -Blankets, Brews & Better Days
And a bonus chapter, picked by Cherri....
🌎 The Elements: Earth, Wind, Fire, Water
How do I contribute to the book?
You can contribute to the book by posting your contribution on Side by Side or by emailing us via sidebysideonline@mind.org.uk.
You're welcome to post in any way that feels right for you - whether that be a poem, a drawing, helpful words, inspirational quotes, etc.
- Please use the hashtag #uncommonplace on your post so we can find and save your work
- Please make it clear which chapter you're contributing to
-Please let us know if you'd like your username credited
When will the book be available?
A digital version will be available for free to all members by Christmas.
Will it be anonymous?
We will include member usernames with each contribution. If you do not want your username used, please say so within the post.
Will people outside Side by Side be able to see the book?
The book will be a digital PDF, so it will be available to those on Side by Side, and others if they choose to share it outside.
Can I use Ai?
We encourage members not to use AI for this project - you each have such authentic human experiences, and we want to give space for that to shine through on the page. Your art, writing, and photography don't have to be "perfect"; they just need to be yours 💙
Copyright
Please use your own original poetry, photography, and artwork rather than others. This is to be in line with copyright laws.
Deadline
We'll start closing the submissions around 9 December, so we can share the complete book by Christmas time.
