Themes tagging during moderation

Why have we introduced Themes tagging?

We want clearer oversight of themes across Side by Side. This will help inform the content we share, the guidelines we write, and policies we need to introduce. For example, we’d like to be able to pull off reports that tell us which topics members are posting about most - it could be worries about welfare benefits or feeling stressed about money. This insight will help shape the support we’re able to give.

So, as a moderator, what do you need to do?

You can add a Theme tag to a piece of content (Posts and DMs).

For example, a member might DM us because they are worried about welfare benefits. You can add a tag to reflect this.

What sort of things need a Themes tag? 

Posts or DMs that are clearly about a topic (Anxiety, Abuse…)

What tags are there?

The tags align with our Experiences tags. So they are an overview of mental health experiences. We’ve also added a couple more to capture important themes, such as Climate Anxiety, Politics and Artificial Intelligence.  We will review these tags to make sure they are giving us the insight we need.

What sort of thing doesn’t need a tag?

Not everything will fall neatly into a theme. For example, if someone posts about their dinner, we don’t need to assign a tag.

Does everything need a tag?

No, you don’t need to tag everything. Just content that is very clearly about a certain topic.

Where do these themes come from?

The Themes are aligned with the Experiences tag on Side by Side.

Will this increase our workload on shift?

We hope not. You only need to add tags where obvious topics are coming up, and they are completed at the same time as adding notes for handovers. Not every single piece of content needs to be marked. We can always go back and add things later if needed.
