I need urgent helpUsing Side by Side Safely
Side by Side is an online mental health peer support community where members can connect, share experiences, and support each other. As a member of this community, it's important to understand how to ensure a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
1: Community Purpose
A) Side by Side is a place for people who are dealing with mental health problems to connect and support each other.
2: Our Members
A) We welcome everyone, from those with no diagnosis who may be struggling with their mental health for the first time, to people with serious and enduring mental health problems.
B) Many members struggle with their mental health. We understand this may sometimes impact their ability to use our site as intended. We will work with you to make this space as inclusive and accessible as possible. But all members must use the service safely and responsibly. If a member is unable to do so, we may encourage them to take a break from the community. Continued unsafe use may mean the service is not appropriate for them.
3: Member Responsibilities
A) Members are expected to engage with the community in a constructive, respectful and supportive manner.
B) Members should avoid sharing content that could be worrying or harmful to others.
C) Members should respect the privacy and confidentiality of other community members.
4: Mind Team and Moderators
A) The Mind Team and moderators help keep the community safe. They will step in if needed to make sure everyone follows the guidelines.
B) If someone’s behaviour is unsafe or disruptive, the Mind Team might take action, including asking them to take a break from the community, or withdrawing their access.
5: Emergency Situations
A) The Mind Team is trained to handle safeguarding situations and can call emergency services if someone is in immediate danger. However, Side by Side is not a crisis service. If you often need urgent help, you might need a different kind of support, and Side by Side might not be the right place for you.
B) While we can call emergency services if someone is in immediate danger, Side by Side isn’t set up to handle ongoing crises. If you need urgent help often, please reach out to crisis services, call 999, or go to A&E.
C) If a member is frequently misusing Side by Side as a crisis resource, the Mind Team may take appropriate actions, including temporary or permanent withdrawal from the community.
